Central California GIS Data Resources
This web page is a list of GIS data resources for the California Central Valley. I have organized the data by County, City, and by Region. Please contact me if you would like to add additional resources to this list, or if you find a broken link.
State of California
In this section of the web page you will find a list of GIS data resources for the State of California. Oftentimes local GIS data can be obtained from these statewide resources.
- CAL Atlas: You can find GIS data for across the State of California at the Cal Atlas web site.
Counties
In this section of the web page you will find a list of GIS data resources for Counties in the California Central Valley.
- San Joaquin County: San Joaquin County makes some hard copy maps or "static maps" available on the main San Joaquin County GIS web site. You can also find a link there to their "district viewer". You can find the San Joaquin County GIS Data Application and License. on the web site that will allow you to purchase the County's digital GIS data, but I encourage you to read the license terms closely. The license is one of poorer licenses I have seen chosen for tax-payer funded GIS data in our region.
Cities and Towns
In this section of the web page you will find a list of resources for the California Central Valley, including my home town, the City of Stockton.
- City of Stockton GIS Data: The City of Stockton makes the majority of its GIS data layers easily downloadable from the web in both ESRI Shapefile and AutoCAD DWG format. You can find links to the GIS layers at the City of Stockton GIS web site. Note: As far as I know the City of Stockton does not make any of their utility GIS data available to the public. This includes layers for storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water facilities. Contact the Stockton Municipal Utility District for more information: http://www.stocktongov.com/MUD/General/faq.cfm
- City of Lodi GIS Data: As far as I know the City of Lodi makes none of its GIS data available to the public. However, you can obtain street centerlines and parcels for within the City of Lodi from the San Joaquin County GIS Department, but you will have to agree to the San Joaquin County GIS data license agreement. Please contact me if the City of Lodi changes its policy and makes their GIS data available to the public.
Regions
In this section of the web page you will find a list of resources for the regions within or near the California Central Valley. This section is currently under construction. Please contact me if you want to add a publicly available GIS data set for one of the regions listed below.
- Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta: Waiting for data.
- Sierra Nevada Foothills: Waiting for data.
